A Day at the Coast

Our Girls’ Week started yesterday, as we drove through the rain showers into the mountains, over the hills and dales, up again and down again, around the curves, back around another curve to go the way we were going before the first curve – and on. Into the little town of Oakridge where we had the 5 Buck Lunch at Dairy Queen, into Eugene where the Artistic One and I stopped at Trader Joe’s for supplies to nourish our stomachs and on to the ocean side of Oregon to our abode for relaxation and companionship.

I did tell you it was raining, didn’t I? And blowing too. So the view from our balcony on Sunday evening looked like this.

And after dark fell, it looked like this

But this morning, when the sun shone despite the prediction for more rain, that view became this

and added even more cheer to our lazy, leisurely morning of coffee and healthy breakfasts (Greek yogurt and healthy granola), after which we decided to get into the car and drive down the road to see what we could see and to eat what we could find. But first, a little touring of some of the local shops

where some of us let our inner child out

more than once.

Then lunch

and some more meandering

Driving up the road heading back home, we stopped to see the Devil’s Bowl

and meet a local resident

and snap some more photos of the views.

What a tangled web we weave.

20140505-182740.jpg

But we did not deceive. The sun was lowering in the sky, as this little guy was standing watch

while these two were waiting for dinner to be served.

So we bid the sea, the rocks, the gulls and the crashing waves adieu, and went back to our cozy condo for wine with crackers and cheese. And wonderful, glorious companionship. We have enough.

What a glorious view – beautiful in rain or not. And I bet it still sounded beautiful even when you couldn’t see it. Looks like the week is starting off well 🙂

I’m so glad the sun came out for you ladies. The coast is beautiful even in the rain but sun is so much nicer.

I’ve never visited a rocky coastline like this, but I hope to one day. It appears so different from our coastline. Thank you for sharing your part of the world.

  7. I love the pictures, esp the rusted sign stump. It shows how salty that sea spray must be on a windy day. Enjoy your special week!

That does look fun! I am so looking forward to my holiday by the water (though in my case it’s a lake, not the ocean). No doubt there will be gift shops but if I wander into them, I’ll be on my own. OH doesn’t do gift shops!

Carol, I have so much to read to catch up with you, and I am looking forward to spending the time seeing what appears to be lots of wonderful photos! I’m touring around visiting my favorite bloggers this morning and see that I’ve missed much here at the Wandering Mind! Happy Mother’s Day and I will definitely be back to spend some more time here 🙂

  12. It turned out to be a marvelous day despite the rain you encountered on your arrival. Friendship, wine, fresh air and views of the ocean: priceless. I love that Devil’s Bowl. I think I was there, many moons ago!!
