New Toys, More Fun

I recently decided to join the present times, to enter the digital age completely. Prior to this, my phone was a phone. Okay, it had a camera, but not a very good camera. It received phone calls and text messages. It had minimal internet access, which I never used because it also had a very small screen.

My new toy. Love, love, love it! It’s a Samsung Galaxy S3 with a nice large screen. Isn’t it interesting that things have been getting smaller and smaller and now things seem to be getting larger and larger? Soon cell phones will be the size of small tablets. And tablets will grow to the size of a laptop. But back to this phone – gradually I am learning the basics. Sometimes it’s smarter than I am, which doesn’t seem quite right. It doesn’t fit in my pocket, like my old phone did, so of course I have had to purchase devices in which to carry it. I think my favorite is the belt with a special pocket for the phone. Then, because this is a pricey device if I were to have to replace it (because the special deal will not last forever) I bought a protective case for it. Then there are the other accessories – the holder that fits on your dash, or the one that fits on your windshield. I think I might hold out for the one that will apply my makeup on request.

I’ve been playing with the camera on this phone – an 8 megapixel device. Not as good as Rebel or my Panasonic, but better than the old phone. And this device is always with me. So to share what I have taken so far, here is a picture of the sun setting as we were coming home from the bigger town down the road one evening earlier this week – the sunset that made me pull off the road so I could capture it forever.

Isn’t this just stunning? So dramatic, with the roiling clouds over the mountains and the lake. Those clouds are the successors of the roiling black clouds that brought us some snowflakes the day before. Snowflakes and freezing temps. Hmmmph!

Some lilacs from the Artistic One’s yard – I took this picture to show her, and when I sent it to her I also included the scent of the lilacs. Neither of these are found in Arizona, you know. I think she will soon be home, but I don’t know if the lilacs will last until then.

The cactus that appears to be about to reward me with blooms. Last fall I stopped following the instructions that came with my first cactus. The instructions that said to water once a month. I began to water a little more often, then changed to once a week and now my cactus are showing growth and looking much happier. My little spot of desert in the window – as close as I really care to get to the desert for any length of time, particularly in the summer. I like green. Green doesn’t do really well in sand and 100+ temperatures. Neither do I.

The clouds are leaving our sky – temporarily I’m sure – and the blue sky and sunshine are making the world bright and shiny. This is enough. This is my world.
