Now that it has been decided that you are to be our government for the next four years, there are some things I must say to you, things with which I must challenge you.
First, remember you are there by a very slim margin, and that margin may not even be the will of the voters, but a result of our system of an Electoral College.
Second, remember that for the past eight years, you have been a very partisan, very obstructionist government. Remember, also, that when the few things you did allow to get through went bad, you were the first to point fingers and blame it on “the other guy”. We have had a president of intelligence and grace, to whom you gave no cooperation, to whose position you have shown no respect.
So now you have your chance. Show us what you can do. While you’re at it, try to remember that our forefathers chose a government “by the people, for the people” – not a government for your party faithful. For all of us. Not just for the 1%. There are 99% of us out here that also need your consideration, your concern.
The speakers say we should go forward, we should unite. Try to remember these words. Try not to set us back, okay? Recognize that we want change but we want progress – we do not want to regress. We want a government that remembers why they were elected. For the people. Please. For the people. All of us. In peace. All living together. Being kind and respectful to one another, not calling names, not promoting dissension, not being dragged down further.
Remember, there will be another election in two years. Remember that what goes around, comes around. Remember, we are counting on you.
Remember, the world is watching. That same world that has been wondering what the heck we’ve been doing, these past 18 months.
I challenge you – show us what you can do. For the benefit of this country.
Give us – enough.
Amen!

Well said, Carol. It was such a disheartening election all around, and I’ve been feeling sick to my stomach all day! I’ll be curious to see how a candidate who has fomented divisiveness during his entire campaign will bring this nation together.

It’s on us to keep track and to make them accountable. It’s not easy. But we can’t bury our heads in the sand and wait. You are right. Let’s see what they can do. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised. I don’t see that happening…but I can hope. And then I can be loud.
