Happiness Is

This week, Chris of 61 Musings has posed an IBQ Writing Prompt: What is Happiness. I think, for me, happiness is best expressed by the photos I’m sharing.

Happiness is my bird tree full of goldfinch

Happiness is always knowing there is a shoulder to lean on when it’s needed. For this daffodil it’s the bush next to it – for me, it’s knowing I have wonderful friends nearby and two children who are the delight of my life.

Happiness is the many signs of spring, like this amazing Rufous Hummingbird who, along with his mate, has been gracing my feeders the past couple of days.

Happiness is the first sighting of a male oriole for this season.

P1010676

Happiness is knowing that although there will always be times of adversity, we will have the strength to survive and will grow stronger from the experience, like this tulip who was drooping on a frosty morning but recovered in the warmth of the sun.

Happiness is spring blooms – the little cherry trees I planted to please the Robins

and its delicate blossoms close up.

Happiness is having survived into my “mature” years. Happiness is finally, finally knowing I fit into my skin. Finally knowing I can figure it out, things will work out, I am a survivor.

Happiness is so many things – some of them tangible, touchable, many of them that feeling that hits when you are quiet and not expecting it. Like that swelling sensation that fills my heart and my head when I look at the bright green new spring growth, when my furry girls give me kisses, when my friends give me hugs, letting me know I am worthy of their love.

Happiness is satisfaction with my surroundings. Having enough. I wish you the happiness of having enough.

Every year I put my hummingbird feeder out at the cottage and I’m treated with what we call ‘hummingbird wars’. We have dozens that come to our feeders but I’ve never seen one the colour of yours. I bought a new feeder and I was thinking of putting one up in our backyard here in Toronto but I’ve never seen them around here. It’s worth a shot. If they don’t show up I’ll take the feeder up north to the cottage.

Yes, spring has sprung here as well. It’s about time. I finally got out to take a few spring blossom shots. And I saw the first hummer scout the other day!! YAY!! I love the red one you have visiting your feeder. True, happiness comes in the little things. 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend. xo
