It’s Tuesday

Where is time going? Suddenly I realize I have not posted in quite a long time, but I have a really good excuse. I have been very busy doing nothing. Sitting. Thinking about spring. Wishing for spring. I know it’s coming because we’ve already had a couple of very spring-like days that encouraged going outside to pull some old weeds and start working up the vegetable beds for planting. One of those days even involved Kat planting some carrot seeds. Yay!

But now – now the “it’s a bit too chilly out there to spend much time” weather is back. so here I sit, watching through the windows, waiting for the clouds to disperse enough to allow that “partly cloudy” part of the forecast to come true. However, inside I will still stay, until that “it’s 60 out there!” part of the forecast comes true – like maybe tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have been weaving and reading, and trying to determine the best method for trying to sell some of my weaving results. Etsy is overloaded with handwoven products, and does not entice me. Maybe Facebook Marketplace? But I don’t think that allows me to organize the product as I would like to. Gertrude is now here with me, so one day soon I can begin the process of getting some (hopefully) decent photos of what I’ve done. You remember Gertrude, don’t you? In case you’ve forgotten, here she is:

She is shown here modeling a handwoven rayon wrap, which happens to be available for purchase if anyone is interested. I don’t recall off the top of my head (which contains an old brain, you know, that doesn’t remember as much as it used to) the sizing, but if you are interested, let me know via email or text, and I will give you the details.

I have had my first “Fauci ouchi”, the Moderna version, and will get my second in a hair over a week from now. The first left me with no nasty side-effects other than a bit of soreness in the receiving arm, but I am planning a day in bed after the second, just based on the experience of those around me who came before me in receiving the vaccination because they are teachers. Okay, so staying in bed for the day wasn’t really necessary for them, but the bit of flu-like symptoms they experienced sound like a good excuse for me.

Life is pretty good these days. Kat and I actually had lunch out last week, at a restaurant that provided socially distant outside seating on one of those lovely “it’s 60 degrees out here” days when we had gone out for her second shot and a few groceries. it was so nice, the eating out in a lovely outside setting, those fish and chips and beers.

I am enjoying the peace and quiet, both in my home and in this country. I am enjoying not listening to a self-absorbed, unpleasant, lots of other not nice adjectives, man. I am enjoying having a presidential president. I am not touting any particular political party here, although I do have my preference, but I am touting dignity, reason, intelligence, thoughtfulness, empathy, all those human qualities we could all do well to aspire to.

So I raise my glass (okay in this case my “glass” is really my coffee cup – it is still morning after all) to the hope that we are approaching a sort of normality, albeit still a masked normality, spring flowers, a little more kindness, a little more tolerance – enough to make this life something to smile about. Here’s to you!

Such a wonderful read, Carol. It is good to catch up with you. I had my first Moderna, also. Second one is on April Fools Day. That’s either a good omen or a bad one. I’ll get back with you. The peace and quiet is lovely, isn’t it? I enjoy watching David Muir now….I mean I enjoy watching the news now. 😉 Take care. Stay safe.

  2. That wrap is a BEAUTIFUL color, if you’d like please email me the price you’re asking for it (mcinbcusa@gmail.com). I’ve loved the one I bought from you before, and I’d love to have this one as well if I can afford it. Regards!

Your wrap is a beautiful. The texture and the colors are lovely. I’m sure Gertrude will wear it in style. I want to be jealous that you’ve had a meal out in a restaurant, but I can’t deny anyone’s good fortune. It looks delicious.

I’m happy to see you’re still weaving and hope you find an outlet where you can sell them to the world! Congrats on receiving your second vaccine shot. We have been fortunate that most of our restaurants have been open all winter for indoor dining with mask and distancing protocols. Our cases are going down so I guess we’re doing something right. It’s interesting how people’s perspectives are so different. I don’t share your optimism on peace and quiet. Portland continues to host violence; the southern border is now a humanitarian and public health crisis; we are 1.9 trillion more dollars in debt with tax hikes on the horizon to pay for it all. I wouldn’t know how presidential Biden is because has yet to addressed Congress or have an unscripted press conference. He seems to be governing through Executive Orders with 37 to date…more than any other president in the same amount of time. Despite claims to want to bring unity, this administration is governing without wanting any bipartisanship. And the media is, for the most part, silent. I look forward to spring, but have little optimism for what is still happening in our country. But, at least Biden doesn’t tweet!

Our southern border has been a humanitarian and health crisis for some years now, and our debt load has been increasing for years now. Those are not new. I guess my estimation of Biden as presidential is that he is speaking softly and not tweeting – that has a lot of value for me. As to governing by Executive Order, that has also been going on for years now – each president undoing what the previous president did. As long as we have a congress that cannot work together – and that will certainly be the way it is for as long as we have people like Mitch McConnell (and others) in there – we will have presidential proclamations as our “law” making device. Perhaps I’m grasping at straws when I work up some optimism for our country, most likely I am actually, but I’m taking the fact that people are actually getting vaccinated as a good thing. I’m taking the fact that the presidential name-calling is not happening as a positive. I’m taking actual press conferences with a real press secretary being held as a good thing. I’m taking whatever seems to be a good thing in my mind and I’m clinging to it. It’s called survival.

I understand the areas you see as positive and you made some good points about our government as a whole. I would certainly include Pelosi and Schumer in the list of politicians unwilling relinquish any power to compromise. I would love to see term limits on all of them. Our Congress spends like money grows on trees and I just don’t understand why we passed a 1.9 trillion dollar bill when the money from previous COVID relief bills haven’t been spent yet. Who do these people think is going to have to foot the bill for all this spending? The EO thing is another area I think is overused by all presidents. It only shows that, instead of actually working together to make long-lasting policies, with the stroke of a pen they immediately make their mark on their “legacy.” I just find it amazing there could have been 37 EOs that had to be signed immediately. Yes, the border has been a hot mess but unaccompanied minors have increased 172% and facilities to house immigrants are at 300% capacity now. This is a recent development since January 20th. Fifty percent of border officers have COVID now and at least 10% of the immigrants have tested positive. It makes no sense to encourage illegal entry when we’re trying desperately to control the spread of the virus within our own citizens. I’m encouraged the vacations are happening but am sad it seems to be yet another issue that is being weaponized. I’m happy we can have these discussions even though it’s obvious we don’t agree on most political issues!

I got kinda butthurt when Jimmy Fallon made fun of Biden tripping up the stairs. I’m not ready for him to be fodder for humor.. I’m still recovering from the chetto child.

Another gorgeous shawl! You need to get a consignment deal with a boutique!!
