Inspections Or Not?

From NBC News this morning: “Tyson, one of the country’s largest meatpackers, is petitioning the Trump administration to reduce the number of government inspectors at a Kansas beef plant”

Sure, why not. I mean it worked really well when the FAA opted to let Boeing do its inspection and certification of the Max 8, right? And the government has been really busy overturning all of the safety measures to try to sustain a livable planet for us all, so what the heck?

None of us really needs safe airplanes, or foods, or clean air and water, or temperatures we can withstand anyway. Heck, our government seems helpless to try to stop the seem-to-be-daily mass shootings in this country, so if we just eliminate all inspections and all regulations, perhaps our population will reduce much more quickly, which might allow our planet to recover and live on. Right?

Yeah right. What happened to listening, reasoning, logic, acting instead of reacting? What is the point of no return?

Just to be clear, this is a reaction.

That which is reasonable is not a priority in this administration. To think otherwise is insanity. Perhaps the Trump years will be remembered as the beginning of the post-reason pro-greed epoch. Scary thought…

  3. I hear people in the UK are really worried about getting sub-standard food from the US post Brexit. At least the EU has stringent food safety guidelines. Glad I live far away on a Pacific island.

Every day, some fresh horror. It’s the reality show we’re living in. He delights in cruelty and “owning” the liberals because his base loves it. They don’t seem to care if this administration poisons us all. (It’s one reason I eat local as much as I can, and very rarely eat meat.)

It should be noted, too, that meatpacking plants don’t want anyone looking too closely at who they are employing. The meat and egg farming industry in general has been caught using trafficked teenagers, employing them at slave wages, not allowing them to leave the farms, etc. Then there are the illegal immigrants they seem all too willing to use.

Tyson? Aren’t they the ones who announced a recall yesterday or today due to “contamination” (specifics not provided)??
I feel like there’s a food recall a day lately. Always makes me glad I went vegetarian!

Unfortunately, this has been happening more and more over the years. In 2014, the Obama administration allowed poultry plants to opt into the alternative inspection system. The precedent has been set to self-regulate. Honestly, I’m not at all impressed with the USDA’s ability to monitor our food sources when there seems to be recalls on some sort of food (veggies included) quite regularly. It’s a bit scary out there!
