Share Your World – June 26, 2017

Another week has passed – so quickly! The weeks have been doing that these past few years. It’s a little scary. So here we are again – ready to share with Cee and all of you.

What goal are you working on now? Your goal can be something fun or extremely serious. Have fun with this question. I find if I set a goal these days, it eats at me, nags at me, and when I don’t reach it, I suffer guilt. So I prefer to say I have “intentions”, none of them planned for very far in the future. Day by day, that’s how I prefer to take it. So my “intention” for today is to get out the weed whacker and clear around the trees and sprinkler heads – those places I don’t get to with the mower. Oh, did I tell you I also do not set lofty intentions?

What is one thing you’re glad you tried but would never do again? Getting a tattoo. I got a dragonfly on the outside of my ankle, so now I can say I got a tattoo. But once is enough. It hurts, and I don’t believe in deliberately subjecting myself to pain. Although I did subsequently get my eyebrows tattooed because after chemo I had virtually none and it was a real pain in the neck. I would get eyeliner done, in the hope that I wouldn’t have to wear mascara, but I’m quite sure that’s a bit more than I want to do in the pain realm.

Did you choose your profession or did it choose you? Originally, I chose my profession as a secretary, because when I got out of school into the working world, that’s what girls did. Many years later, I fell into my second and preferred profession of escrow officer in southern California. That one I really liked.

Have you ever gotten lost? Oh yeah. I have no sense of direction at all, to the point that I need to wear a ring on my left hand so I know left from right. Even with guidance, almost always I will go past my destination and have to turn around and go back. When we traveled, my husband used to ask me which way to go, then go the opposite way. Does that tell you anything?

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I am grateful for getting closer to the date my kids will be here for their summer visit. I am grateful for waking every morning of the days of the last week, for all those things I am always grateful for – time with friends and my furry girls. I am grateful for the things that bloom in my yard and the birds that sing their songs. I am not grateful for the grasses and weeds that grow where they are not wanted. I am looking forward to a week with temperatures at a perfect level, and cooler than the past week.

Now, a little bit of Santa Fe art for you to enjoy:

  1. Carol — I love that you have intentions (some of them lofty) rather than set goals.

Make that two of us, Carol. I was always baffled by that old interview question about where I see myself in 5 years. I am lucky to have intentions that last all year, but goals for 5 years out? Not gonna’ happen.

Oh you should have lots of fun when your kids do come out. I like your little intentions. 😀

  3. Another vote for “intentions.” Though, these days, I’d rather just point myself in the general direction of an outcome and see what happens.
I think I need to visit Santa Fe.

My mantra is “blessed are the flexible for they shall never get bent out of shape.” Sometimes I intentionally set my expectations low so I’m not disappointed. 🙂 Have I ever gotten lost? You bet! Sometimes it’s the best way to find something. I love your grateful message…and your photos. Hope your day is wonderfully blessed.

I like your distinction between goals and intentions. Makes perfect sense to me. It’s funny you mention tattoos. Just had a conversation with a friend about getting one, and we both decided too much pain… but then got thinking about eyebrows, maybe. Your photos are great, as usual.

The eyebrows are one of the best things I’ve done. I love the freedom – I can face people before I actually have dressed my face. Yes, it hurts, but only briefly.

My mother in law had her eyebrows tattooed because she doesn’t really have any. Only hers didn’t last. Glad to hear that yours have. Maybe she just needs a better tattoo artist. She did also get her eyeliner done, and I think she’s back to doing that, too. But I guess the pain wasn’t all that bad? Personally, I have more hair than I want on my face and currently have no reason to tattoo it on. I also happen to be growing my head of hair far longer than I’d like right now so that I can chop it off for someone who can’t grow it. I keep telling myself it’s a nice thing to do, but all this extra hair in the summer is literally weighing me down 😉

My hair used to be very thick, and I remember constantly lifting it off my neck and face when it was longer and it was hot. Plaudits to you for growing yours to help someone who needs it. The tattooing will fade over time, and the woman who did mine suggests annual touch-ups.

did your eyebrow tattoos last? mine didn’t.
instead of eyeliner tattoo, you could try lash dying. I’ve done it and it works really well and lasts a reasonable amount of time for the cost. I want to try a lash perm + dye but I can’t afford it.

It’s only been a year, but they’ve held up really well. I’ll go in for a touch up this month – way cheaper to have that done annually.

I have a problem with dye or tattoo or anything else that close to the eye. Just need to get over the vanity of needing mascara.

Both of mine got severely infected in the area by the nose and peeled right off in those spots. I never got any touch-ups … can’t remember how long they lasted but I wasn’t surprised they didn’t survive because I’m a sun worshiper… that’s the primary reason I never got a 3D-looking tattoo of an AIDS ribbon… red fades the fastest and it would have looked like crap almost immediately.
