It’s looking a lot like this again today. I think we’re in a rut, with this snow falling from the skies thing happening so often.
We planned, Kat and I, to go to town today to take care of some things she needs to do while she’s in this country, and to fill our pantry with the makings of Christmas dinner. That plan was changed yesterday when I studied the forecast for last night and today. We still plan to go in tomorrow for pedicures and massages – to have a day of pampering. Then again on Wednesday, to do those things we are not doing today. In the meantime, we shall stay inside where it is warm and dry, and view the goings on outside our windows, where the quail feed.
We’ve been hibernating, looking out the windows, singing bits and pieces of winter songs that fit the weather. “Baby, it’s cold outside”. “Roasting chestnuts by the open fire”. Except we don’t have a fire, open or otherwise, so we dream. And we watch as the birds flit about, landing in the bird tree. They come for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the feathered and furred creatures that visit my yard.
It’s pleasant, this hibernating thing. I’m ignoring the news, the campaigning, all negative thoughts. It might snow on my parade, but I’ll not allow any raining on it during these holidays. So those of you out there who cannot suppress your nasty inclinations – you will not enter my thoughts, my heart, my home. It’s not allowed! I will focus on the squirrel who performs gymnastics when he steals sunflower seeds from the bird feeder.
The hawk who flies in to cause stress and upset, he’s not invited for dinner.
The mean girl Mourning Dove who thinks the world is her oyster, and does not allow her kin to feed where she feeds, she’s not invited for dinner either.
If you come in peace, if you believe in harmony, understanding, tolerance – you are invited for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You are welcome to sit at my table.
Who are you inviting to join you this holiday season?
Banishing all negativity…not a bad plan. I would happily take some snow on my parade. It is so dark here today – just rain on the whole parade. At least Tony is making dinner. That helps 😉

I really like your pictures of the wildlife in your yard! I’m not a fan of snow at all, but it is so pretty where you are. Haha had to laugh at the ‘mean girl mourning dove’ label 🙂 We have them here at my feeder year round, and yes, some can get a bit testy with the others.

This year we will not be doing Christmas with family. But I will be celebrating in another way which will become apparent eventually.

Carol — We’re sharing our second Christmas in Boise with our son who moved here in September. He’s going to love his first Christmas in Boise!

Love all your feathered friend captures. No huge hoopla this year. We just had Christmas with my side of the family yesterday. Christmas Day we’ll spend a few hours with Entrepreneur’s side of the family. No white Christmas here this year. Not sure how I feel about that. 🙂 Glad you and Kat are spending some quality time together (mani and pedi day!). xo

Beautiful birds, even those who apparently didn’t come in peace. I love your snow, too. I will gladly exchange weather with you, if you like. Your last question is a Very Good Question. Glad you’re getting some hibernation and other good time with Kat. 🙂

Your beautiful garden of peace looks so different to mine, Carol. I only welcome those who wish to dine here in peace also, so my magpie family, kookaburras and rainbow lorikeets are all welcome.
We will spend Christmas Day here at home, with my children, their special people, and my inlaws, and the weather is predicted to be 26 C, with rain showers, so I hope that cools the house down. 🙂

I’ve heard there’s been a heat wave over there.

There has, down south, but we have been lucky here with the weather. It reached around 30 C today, but that isn’t unusual for this time of year.

I love all your little visitors–even those who are not invited to the dinner table!

Beautiful – I wish we had such whiteness here in Ottawa, where it is oddly green . . .

I shall spend the holidays with 6 cats. 7 if BW2 decides to stop by for nibbles.
Love the pics!! Snow is so pretty. I don’t want to be near it but I sure enjoy looking at it!

Your outdoors looks like Narnia before the white queen was killed and all….
Beautiful. From inside the warmth of the house, I am sure. Outside feels brrrrrrrr…
