Share Your World – 2015 Week 3

Here it is, halfway through another week! Before we know it, it’s going to be spring – I think that comes under the category of wishful thinking. It is, however, time for another challenge from Cee. I’m going to try to answer these questions, but there’s one or two that are going to give me a problem I think.

1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest? I’m not much for inviting people for meals. If you happen to drop in at meal time, I’d be happy to have you join me. But if I invite you, my expectations for myself make me tense and when I get tense, things tend to go wrong. But – assuming I was a more natural hostess like The Gracious One is, I would invite my bloggy friends – those of you whose posts I read regularly and either like or comment or both – because I would like to get to see you up close and in person and to get to know you better. I might even invite my neighborhood friends so we could all get to know one better.

2. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else? This is sad, because I don’t remember. I tried singing to husband a few times early on, but he discouraged it by telling me “don’t give up on your day job.” Rude, huh? But justified, considering my extreme lack of talent in that area.

3. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be? There are many qualities I would either like to have or to have improved upon what I already have of them. It’s hard to pick just one – but given the fact that I seem to have perfected the ability to accomplish absolutely nothing in any given day, I think the quality I would like to have would be ambition – and the motivation to just get at things and get them done.

4. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about? I’m not sure I believe there’s anything too sacred to be joked about, but there are some parts of jokes that I find offensive – I particularly rail when derogatory terms for various races are used in jokes. Just not funny. And jokes that go overboard in putting someone down are annoying for me. Maintain some respect there, please.

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? My grateful fors tend to be repetitive. I am grateful for waking every morning, for the morning kisses Shasta bestows upon me in her insistence that I get up and out of bed – now! – for having a warm, comfortable home in a neighborhood of warm, comfortable people. I guess I am most grateful for my big furry girls insisting we get out and walk, even if for short distances, every afternoon. “Let’s go, mom!”

I am looking forward to – more of the same. Planning a visit to The Artistic One in March. Spending time with my friends. Going to Tai Chi Friday – with the full intention of actually getting there this Friday.

And now, my usual – a few photos – today they’re all starring Sammy Squirrel, on his way across the gazebo frame to the roof to the bird tree to the feeder.

I wish to all of you – enough.

We should all have a bloggers party. I like your idea. Thanks for sharing Carol.

  2. Like Cee, I think a bloggers dinner party would be wonderful. And to eliminate tension, it would be a potluck with each of us bringing a dish to share 🙂

  3. Motivation would be a great quality, especially if it could squash procrastination!

Ah, yes, the Squirrel Highway, they always manage to build a road to the nearest feeder, and travel it like clockwork. I totally agree with your answer to #4.

Ha, Lily is making sure Sammy doesn’t get through the window! My cat loves watching the squirrels and birds, too.

Motivation, made me chuckle here. My husband has accused me of wasting an entire Sunday afternoon reading magazines. I don’t think this is wasteful whatsoever.

Cee has pulled out all the stops with these questions! I can understand why you had to consider some of your answers. I began this year thinking I would contribute to Share Your World every week, and here we are at week three….hmm, I’ll have to get onto this. I love the idea of a blogging dinner, that’s a great answer. 🙂

Ditto, ditto and ditto! Maybe we could have a virtual progressive dinner?! I really love the last shot of the squirrel tail.

  10. Really good answers, Carol! I hope you will tell us about your visit with The Artistic One. That photo of the cat staring out through the window is loaded with tension and emotion. I just love the perspective.

I think we all want to have dinner with you, Carol. But we’ll make it a potluck. (Ha ha, just went up and read the comments and it looks like Laurie got the idea first.) Then there wouldn’t be any expectation on your part and we’d all have fun. That’s what we do at Book Club. Also, invite us over after dark in the winter. That way you hardly have to do any cleaning either! *grin*

I am the same as you with entertaining. When I invite people over, I get so tense from the expectations I have of myself that everything goes wrong and I don’t enjoy the evening. I tend to avoid it. However, if you are a real friend or member of the family I’m happy to have you because you’ll eat baked beans and have fun. That’s much more relaxing!

The question about what ability you’d like to wake up with is difficult. If I can’t wake up with a totally healthy body (oh, how nice that would be!) then I choose music. I would LOVE to be able to play an instrument or sing well. I do sing though. Only in the car or when I’m by myself, but I do sing.

Your answers are always so good. I think we’d all probably like a little more follow-through. Good to know this world is full of dreamers 🙂
As for the jokes, I agree with the sentiment that some situations in life call either for laughing or crying – I prefer laughing. I think I agree with you about the racist remarks. However, I think when used to make a point of how bad the term is, then it’s appropriate. Not necessarily enjoyable, but I appreciate when something uncomfortable can teach us a lesson about being too comfortable. If that makes sense 😉
