Finally I found my Kat! Finally, I am not sitting on a plane.
Yesterday – was it yesterday? I’m not sure anymore – I crossed the international date line. Anyway, the day I started getting on planes, the morning in Portland – I had breakfast at the airport. Quite a good breakfast and relatively healthy. It was a scramble, with eggs, tomatoes, feta cheese, spinach – good food. Then there were the hash browns . . .
After breakfast, I made my way to the gate to await the little plane that would take me to Vancouver
where I made my way across the airport, all ten miles of it, to the gate for the bigger plane that would take me to Narita Airport in Tokyo, Japan.
The plane that flew for hours and hours, the plane where the seat grew harder as the hours passed. But – I must say I was impressed by Japan Airlines. While the seat/leg space was no more generous than on the American airlines I have flown, the plane was attractive and clean, the stewardii were very pleasant, happy people, the service was excellent, and the food was real food, and plentiful. Without an extra charge. Wine was offered with dinner, at no extra charge. I was impressed. And happy. Even if the seat did grow harder and harder.
I watched a movie – Boyhood – we traveled through light and darkness, and then the sun rose and shone brightly into the windows
and we arrived at Narita a little early, meaning I had time to stop in the ladies’ room
before I began that ten-mile trek
to my gate, where I boarded the big plane that brought me to Ho Chi Minh City where my Kat awaited me. The plane that had a little more leg room and flew for fewer hours affording me a few naps before we landed.
So now we are in Ho Chi Minh City and we will go back to the airport tonight to meet Gep. Today? We’ll lounge, then we’ll go walking because my body says I need to walk and I am, after all, here, so I need to see some of this city.
Have a wonderful time!

Your photos took me back to the first time my oldest grandson ever saw an escalator—in the airport. We went up and down, over and over, to kill the time, waiting for my youngest son to arrive home from wherever he’d gone. But that was then, and this is now, so enjoy your time away from home, Carol, and thanks for the flashback đŸ™‚

An incredible journey begins…and I am sure we will see more than those 10-mile airport treks. Can’t wait!

Oh, Carol, what a wonderful holiday you are going to have! You are quite the adventurer. I love the details you are sharing–one day I hope to get to Asia, and I’m taking notes. Best wishes for a very Merry Christmas, but most of all, I know it will be joyful to be with your kids!

Carol — Goodness, gracious, you’re a TRAVEL WARRIOR! I enjoyed looking at your travel photos. Do you take Melatonin to minimize jet lag? It’s always proven helpful to Len and I when we fly internationally.

Jet lag has not been a real problem for me, Laurie. So far, that is.

What a wonderful adventure you’re going to have! I think the toilet alone would have been enough for me. So many buttons! lol! Was that ketchup on your hash browns? I put ketchup on my hash browns, too.
Have a fantastic time, Carol, and a very Merry Christmas! đŸ™‚

Yep, that was catsup/ketchup. Only way to go for me.

Reminds me of my first trip to Okinawa on a military transport. When we stopped in Guam, they gave the local time and I kept asking, “What DAY is it?”

Such adventures you have. I hope to be able to travel to many places some day. Reading about your travel is fun. Love the photos of the toilet – lol! Wondering what exactly the “spray” button is suggesting you spray – it looks an awful lot like the part that is generally covered by the bidet!

Exactly what it is, Karma. Very prevalent in Asia. I’ll take a picture of the less sophisticated form of that. That toilet seat was also heated.
