Cloudy with a Threat of Frost

Last night we had this amazing moon

P1020223

and this morning we have clouds and, although the forecast says we have only a 10% chance of rain, we have had a few showers. That’s okay – a cloudy day makes for a lazy day for me. What’s not okay is that the forecast says we could very well have frost tonight! That’s not okay! Methinks Mother Nature has a very nasty sense of humor. So today I shall putter about inside, maybe do something constructive. Maybe. Maybe think about sorting and organizing the multitude of recipes I’ve collected lately.

But before I start, there are more things blooming in my garden. There are a couple of other peony plants sharing their blooming beauty

P1020213

There is the patch of grass in a flower bed that refuses to be eradicated, but delighted me the other morning when the sun hit it and the droplets of water from the sprinklers sparkled a good morning wish

P1020207

there are the lantana plants I found at a nursery, purchased and placed in a pot on the step of my front deck. You know, that front deck that is my spot of of relaxation and pleasure on the warm weather days.

P1020210

P1020212

There is yellow allium, still coming up every year although it’s been several years since it was planted

P1020215

and the honeysuckle vine that is flourishing this year

P1020209

I have changed my watering system for the flower beds around the house, a change forced when two of our sprinkler stations decided to no longer function and husband was no longer able to make repairs, but it appears to have been one of those things that turned out to be a good thing because my plants in those beds are happier than I’ve ever seen them.

The Artistic One has had out-of-town guests for the past couple of days, and yesterday while the husband played golf with another friend, the three of us went up to Crater Lake for lunch. But before we had lunch, we wandered a bit.

The lake is still there, sparkling it’s bright blue for whomever wishes to see.

P1020219

Much of the snow that was there last time we went has melted, but enough still remains to keep some of the paths closed

P1020221

and to surround the trees with twisted trunks – most likely caused by the snows that cover them in the winter months.

P1020220

We had a lovely day and a lovely lunch – I would share pictures of our choices for lunch, had I thought to take some. I would also share pictures of our neighborhood potluck last night, had I thought to take some. Oh well, take my word for it, it was all delicious.

Today, on this chilly gray day with a threat of frost, I shall stay in my house, content with my life, sure in the knowledge that I have enough.

Now I think I’ll go turn the heat back on for this day and night.

Carol, You must have the most colorful and beautiful yard. Every flower from your garden or in a pot is a bright spot of joy.

That moon is amazing against the color of the sky. But frost? It’s the middle of June. Mother Nature needs to check her calendar.

I sometimes forget my camera, but more often, I just forget to take it out and start taking pictures.

Beautiful yard and photography!! We didn’t get nearly as cold as you, but we did get a horrific downpour for about an hour last night.

Frost?! No way! I hope they’re wrong so you don’t lose your beautiful blossoms. I love peonies but for some reason have never planted any in my gardens. Must remedy that soon. Spectacular shot of the full moon!

  4. Hopefully your beautiful flowers will be spared. Frost in June seems very unusual. Yellowstone is the only place I have seen snow in June.

I hope the frost doesn’t harm your beautiful blooms, which you’ve done a great job taking pictures of. Enjoy your cloudy day!

I hope your flowers are ok. It doesn’t seem right to have a frost when they’re in bloom. Stay warm!

It is Saturday morning as I’m typing this comment – though very early for you out there on the west coast. I hope your frost did not come! That would be a very cruel prank for Mama Nature to be playing in the middle of June! How late into the summer does the snow usually remain around Crater Lake? Is it unusual for it to still be there now?
Love all your blooms. I need to go photograph my peonies too before they fade away.

Gorgeous flowers–and I so loved looking at Crater Lake. I didn’t realize you were close to it. It’s darn cold around here, too, although we haven’t gotten near the frost point. However, all the veggies and flowers are shivering and so are we. (When we’re not cutting wood.)

Crater lake looks beautiful under sun or snow. And the snow (or whatever) certainly makes those tree trunks look cool. Glad you posted the shot of the allium. I have a couple blooming out back, right next to my purple allium, and I had no idea what they were 🙂

Oh my goodness, that shot of the lake is just gorgeous! What a contrast to the flowers, all of which are also beautiful. It’s been so hot here that it’s hard to believe there is still enough snow to close down trails, or threats of overnight frost.

  12. Your photograph of Crater Lake is stunning (as are your other photos). There’s something about the sapphire blue water that just makes me smile!
