Cloudy with a Threat of Frost

Last night we had this amazing moon

and this morning we have clouds and, although the forecast says we have only a 10% chance of rain, we have had a few showers. That’s okay – a cloudy day makes for a lazy day for me. What’s not okay is that the forecast says we could very well have frost tonight! That’s not okay! Methinks Mother Nature has a very nasty sense of humor. So today I shall putter about inside, maybe do something constructive. Maybe. Maybe think about sorting and organizing the multitude of recipes I’ve collected lately.

But before I start, there are more things blooming in my garden. There are a couple of other peony plants sharing their blooming beauty

There is the patch of grass in a flower bed that refuses to be eradicated, but delighted me the other morning when the sun hit it and the droplets of water from the sprinklers sparkled a good morning wish

there are the lantana plants I found at a nursery, purchased and placed in a pot on the step of my front deck. You know, that front deck that is my spot of of relaxation and pleasure on the warm weather days.

There is yellow allium, still coming up every year although it’s been several years since it was planted

and the honeysuckle vine that is flourishing this year

I have changed my watering system for the flower beds around the house, a change forced when two of our sprinkler stations decided to no longer function and husband was no longer able to make repairs, but it appears to have been one of those things that turned out to be a good thing because my plants in those beds are happier than I’ve ever seen them.

The Artistic One has had out-of-town guests for the past couple of days, and yesterday while the husband played golf with another friend, the three of us went up to Crater Lake for lunch. But before we had lunch, we wandered a bit.

The lake is still there, sparkling it’s bright blue for whomever wishes to see.

Much of the snow that was there last time we went has melted, but enough still remains to keep some of the paths closed

and to surround the trees with twisted trunks – most likely caused by the snows that cover them in the winter months.

We had a lovely day and a lovely lunch – I would share pictures of our choices for lunch, had I thought to take some. I would also share pictures of our neighborhood potluck last night, had I thought to take some. Oh well, take my word for it, it was all delicious.

Today, on this chilly gray day with a threat of frost, I shall stay in my house, content with my life, sure in the knowledge that I have enough.

Now I think I’ll go turn the heat back on for this day and night.
