I had in mind a couple of other topics for a post today, but going through my mail realized it was time for Cee’s challenge again. The other topics will wait, as I try my best to respond to Cee’s questions.
1. If you could go back and visit any time period, what time would you travel to and why? Great way to start! I have no answer. I’m not sure I’d like to go back to visit any time period – unless maybe I could go back to when my mother was a young woman, before she married, and spy on what her life was like then. I have a few pictures of her from that time, and a couple of them show what appears to be a close relationship with a young man – not my father. I would like to know more about him, and what happened between them. I’d also like to know if she was happy then.
2. If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be? This is a time for you to dream and have fun. Wow! Three wishes, just for me? Okay, here goes. Keep in mind I am being entirely selfish here.
A silent benefactor who would like to provide a travel opportunity once a year, all expenses paid. Like a blank check to go where I want to go. This would have to include an amazing trustworthy house/dog/cat sitter.
A new car of my choice, complete with paid insurance and free gas for a year.
A gardener to come in and take care of the yard once a week. In the winters, he could come in and shovel snow as needed.
3. Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink? It depends. Most often, a glass of ice cold water, but late in the afternoon on warm days, a cold beer, preferably dark, is special.
4. If you watch TV what are your favorite three television shows? There are not very many shows I watch with any regularity, so this is an easy one. American Idol, The Voice and Dancing With the Stars. Otherwise, I watch HGTV a lot, house hunting is good. Food Network has Chopped, that’s interesting. But those are just when I feel like it things to watch.
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I am grateful for the opportunity to shop some plant sales for tomatoes and strawberries to grow in my earth boxes and pretty flowers and herbs for my outdoor pots. I am looking forward to more food adventures – learning more about eating a PH balancing diet for me and my girls.
There are more things blooming in my yard this spring, and I’d like to share them with you. The first is the last of the daffodils, this pretty peachy pink-cupped variety.
The pink and white crabapple trees are in full bloom, preceding their production of berries for the birds.
Yellow potentilla
cushion spurge
and the far too prevalent Creosote Bush, also known as Greaseplant, that invades our properties but also provides the most gentle sweet scent when it blooms in the spring.

Good answers, Carol! Thanks for the stroll about the yard. I love to see what’s in bloom. It will be a few weeks before my potentilla blooms, but I always welcome it. As they blossom one by one, then in twos and threes, and suddenly the bush is covered with little yellow flowers, it reminds me of the stars coming out in the daytime.

Carol, I loved your answers, especially the first two. I would also like to go back in time to see my mother before she became mentally ill. I’ve never known her otherwise. I’d like to see the person my father fell in love with.
When I get my dream money, I will definitely become your benefactor and send you traveling once a year. Just let me know what your first destination would be. To visit your children? Or something entirely new? I’ll have my personal assistant make all the arrangements. š

Thank you, Chris! My next big trip will be next March, to visit my daughter in Sacheon, South Korea. During her spring break, we will go somewhere warm with sandy beaches and blue waters, perhaps Thailand. Then we will enjoy the blooming of the cherry blossoms, and treasure each other’s company.

Thank you, Lisa. I felt the same way about traveling in time, then realized as I pondered my answer that since I put together scrapbooks for my kids of our family history – what little I know of it – I have been wishing I had asked my parents more questions about their lives and about their feelings, most especially my mother. I think she did not have a great deal of happiness in her life, which makes me sad.

I love your three wishes and your desire to go back in time to spy on your mother with the man who wasn’t your father. There’s so much I wish I knew about my mother too that I’ll never know because I didn’t bother to ask. I regret that deeply now. Love your flowers, especially the “cushion spurge.” š
