Cee has done her weekly thing – that is, post questions to rouse our minds and get us thinking. Quite a feat – getting my mind to thinking early in the morning.
1. What are some words that just make you smile? Marigold. Supercalifragilisticexpealadocious. Hugs. Sunshine. I’m sure there are more happy words, but those are the ones that come to mind immediately. Don’t ask why because I would have no answer.
2. When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles or turn on the flashlight? How many of each do you own? Usually I light candles (of which I own many) and the two oil lamps I keep on hand. Flashlights (I have three) for seeing in areas that are not well lit by candles and oil lamps – when I’m looking for something. I must knock on wood here and say that although we had regular outages when we first moved here, lately we have had only momentary blips. Hopefully that will continue or improve.
3. What is the longest book you ever read? Oh! You ask this of one who never remembers titles? I do know it was one of James Michener’s books, but I do not remember which one.
4. So you win a pet monkey at a fair, but this isn’t just any old monkey. It can do one trick for you whenever you want from getting a pop out of the fridge to washing your hair. What would be the trick? Putting my little clutter piles into their proper places. Or maybe vacuuming. Or scrubbing hard surface floors. Cleaning bathroom? Could the one trick be that it’s a multi-tasking monkey and could do all of the above?
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I’m in a rut here. I’m grateful for the sunny days, for my morning room where I sit to enjoy my coffee, for my furry four-legged children, for my friends and my kids. I’m looking forward in the week coming up (that would be starting next Sunday) to a Girls’ Week at the Coast. This week I’m looking forward to completing the spring cleanup yard work, which is well on its way to completion.
Now, a few pictures and a few more words – more of both than you probably really want, but what can I say? This represents a typical sunny morning with the views from my window and from my chair where I sit with my morning coffee.
I hope this moment, this day, this week – you have enough.
Dear Carol,
Good answers! I love the bird tree! Thanks for taking us on a little tour–enjoyed that very much. Have fun on your Girls’ Week Out! I hope we’ll see photos and hear stories about that too.

All your furry pictures make me smile 🙂 Twiggy looks like she’s reveling in the sun, and Lily could be one of my cats – always seeking this highest place, even if that happens to be upon a paper on a raised surface. If you happen to get a monkey who does that one multifaceted trick, can I borrow him/her for an afternoon occasionally? You know, just to show him/her off to my friends 😉

Certainly, Heather, you could borrow my monkey. He will love showing off his tricks after all.

I always love reading your posts. You live a life of “enough” and I like the reminder of what I am and what I have is always “enough”…and for that I am eternally grateful.

I’m glad you played along this week Carol. James Michener did write some long books. Your photos brought a smile to my face. Thanks.

Supercalifragilisticexpealadocious! How can you not smile at that word! And, I grab a flashlight….to find the candles! Burning candles during a power outage always makes me feel cozy and less-stressed.

Ice cream, retirement, road trip…those all make me smile. If the power goes off we’re lucky enough to have an automatic generator…I don’t own any candles, and I don’t know for sure where the flashlight is and odds are the batteries are dead. Longest book? Maybe Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver…but it might also be that Goldfinch book that’s a best seller now. Not sure as I read that on my kindle and it went on and on and on and on. If I had a monkey that could do one thing..could it please fold the laundry?

Your monkey could do whatever you want it to do. A generator? Smart purchase, but candles are much more soothing.

Enough is good. You’ve cornered the market on goldfinches, apparently! Love the nuthatches. We had one visit the previous winter, they don’t normally come this far south. What a lovely morning view you have.

I love your answers, Carol. I probably should have my monkey clean bathrooms and do the ironing so I can go out and work in the garden. 🙂

The word “marigold” is perfect for a smile. I’m sure you’ve already gone, but I hope you had a great time with the girls at the coast!
