Today Was Going to be the Day

Last week we had a morning like this

Followed by a sunny day. But I had started “reorganizing” – aka making messes of piles of things – just moving things from here to there. So I stayed inside. The furry girls and I did not go for a walk, even though they told me we really should.

And then there was another morning

And another, but still we stayed inside. I moved hither and thither, starting many things, finishing none. But my intentions were good. Heck! My intentions were admirable. My follow-through – not so much.

These marvelous mornings, sunny days, were followed by a series of gray days. Finally one gray, chilly afternoon, the furry girls insisted and insisted until I agreed to a walk. But a short one, I said, because it was gray, damp and chilly, so we would only walk down our road and back. Just enough to pacify the insistent furry girls. And we did.

Then it rained. No, no walk in the rain. The rain turned to snow, when we would have walked had it not been for the winds that came with the snow. No, I said – we will stay inside and wait till another day.

Another day – yesterday – dawned. Just a couple of inches of new snow on the ground, gray skies but the wind had stopped – perhaps we should trek on down the road to the Wood River campgrounds, which would surely be empty now, and walk and take some pictures. You think? Well, you know what, the weather forecast says it’s going to be sunny tomorrow, so let’s wait, because those turquoise waters of the river will be so much nicer in the sunshine.

Now tomorrow is today

Yep. This is how the day has dawned. Maybe the sun will break through the fog later. Maybe.

The moral of this story: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. You’d think I’d have learned that after all these years of living. Of putting off till tomorrow. So instead of driving to the pretty river to check the scenery, take some pictures and get some exercise, I will stay inside and see if I can actually get organized. I have emptied drawers, rearranged closets – I have done many things, none of which can be seen unless you really look, none of which are really complete. Maybe today is the day to really complete something. Just one room maybe. That would be nice!

How do you reorganize an entire house?

Do you know what you can put off till tomorrow? Kicking yourself.
But housework is definitely best done on days that do not inspire one to be outdoors. Rome wasn’t built in a day. The organizing might not happen in a day either.

The organizing definitely won’t happen in a day. I’m considering it good if it’s done by the end of February. My self-kicks were really quite gentle, and were accompanied by a sigh and acceptance that that’s just me.

Then it sounds like you’ve got this kicking yourself thing all figured out πŸ™‚ Not so bad if you’re doing it in good fun. Like the organizing. Or not. Because that’s not really ever good fun. But I hope you find some good trips down memory lane in the process anyway πŸ™‚

Tanner guilted me into walking in our 65F day yesterday. It’s so easy to get sucked into other things, isn’t it? We all know that phrase of don’t put off until tomorrow… but we do it anyway, many times at the expense of a glorious sunny day! But maybe organization is what you mentally needed at that particular time. No matter….spring will come again. πŸ™‚

I think the organization thing was more important to me then. That and getting laundry done at the home of the Gracious One because my washer is still on the disabled list – and it appears it may be moved to the terminal list. Oh well, I’m pretty sure I really want a new washer and dryer.

Your fury girls have forgiven you already Carol, now you must forgive yourself. We learn, we change; what is right for us one day isn’t always right on another day….you’ll get there Carol and the sun will shine again and the snow will melt, and your dogs will always love you, of that you can be sure. xxx

So today I got a few things done in my quest to organize. And another load of laundry done at the home of the Gracious One. My washer is still on the disabled list, and appears that it will get moved to the terminal list. It seems manufacturers no longer carry parts for 14-year-old washers. So be it – I’ve already picked out LG washer and dryer if it comes to that. And figured out where the $ would come from. More or less.

I’ve done that so many times, stayed in because I was making progress, when the fresh air would have worked wonders on my soul.

  6. Give yourself a break and a little time, Carol. Maybe start with small goals for each day – a drawer, shelf, or cabinet, rather than a room. They’ll add up in no time. But do try to start walking… the exercise and escape from four walls really will help – even if it’s only ten minutes or so on an icky day. Your furry girls will love it, too! I’ve been thinking of you. XOXOXO

Katie MADE me go to the park Sunday. We didn’t walk far but I’m glad we went. My closets are awful. My drawers are full. I need a giant garbage bag…but I keep putting that off. Sigh.

Good for Katie, Dawn! If the fog lifts tomorrow, we’ll go for at least a short walk. I need less stuff, I’m positive of that. I used to be able to get rid of things if I didn’t wear them the past season – what happened to that, I wonder?

Lovely sky photos, love the pink in the clouds. It’s foggy here this morning, too. It gives the rising sun quite a glow, halo of sorts.

  9. It must be foggy over the entire country because it’s foggy here in Virginia this morning too. Tough to get used to after my 10 days in sunny California! I’m sure you can’t expect to reverse years of accumulation and chaos in a couple of weeks. I hope you’ll find some enjoyment in the process, Carol. It will get done, slowly, slowly. πŸ™‚

Carol, I keep avoiding walking this winter, too. I always have some excuse, which usually involves snow or cold or more snow and more cold.
