Is Home an Illusion?

No going home – today anyway. Doctor says husband’s sodium level must go up a bit more. Maybe tomorrow – we hope.

When we do go home, I have a sort of a bucket list. For the first few days, at least, I will:

Hang out in sweats. No bra. No makeup.

Cuddle with my furry girls, as much as they will allow.

Be happy for my home wifi, where I do not have to sign in and where I do not get dropped. At random.

But – ohmigosh! – I shall also have to cook? What is that anyway?

Take naps when I please. In my comfy chair.

Have coffee made by my Keurig – or Chai. When I want, without having to dole out dollars. Per cup. Because I have a good supply of k-cups at home, having ordered some just before we left.

Love my home – love my husband – love my furry girls – love my friends and family – for longer than the first few days.

Try to keep husband under control so he doesn’t try to set his world on fire. He’s not good at moderation. He gets grumpy when I try to control. It could get interesting.

Do lots of laundry. Maybe a little housecleaning. Maybe.

Do laundry only when necessary and housework can wait. Let the furry ones fill your heart back up with love and energy. take care of yourself and your hubby….get plenty of rest and be gentle with yourself.

I was so happy when I read this post Carol, knowing that you can now see that home is a place you will be soon, and your heart will be filled again by all of the people, pets and things you love the most. Pat must be doing very well, if he can soon leave the hospital.

My love and best wishes to both of you. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your next update on how Pat is doing is written from home? πŸ™‚

I was with you until laundry. Laundry can wait (unless you’ve gone and used it all up? even so…sweat pants will do for a few days!) until you’re content with the completion of your bucket list. Glad to hear you may be homeward bound soon πŸ™‚

  6. I’m sorry you have to wait another day to go home, Carol, but it looks like you’re almost there. And as you visualize it, it will be there for you. Forget about housework; all the other stuff sounds perfect. Pampering is just what you need. I’m here wishing you both the best homecoming ever. πŸ™‚

  8. Hi Carol, You might also want to add a walk in the yard, a long breath of fresh air after all the hospital variety, and taking photos of the birds at your feeder. Hopefully you can get to all these things sooner rather than later. Best wishes to you and your husband.

So sorry to read of all you’ve been going through but delighted, as I write this, that you’re both back home. I read a fantastic blog post by Rudri that came to mind when reading yours today. It’s the very simplest little aspects of home that are desperately missed when we’re away because of acute illness. Cuddles with much loved pets, our own bed, TV choices, cups of tea, when we want, *how* we want. I’m so glad you’re both enjoying it all again. Sending hugs … x
