Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreign and Travel Theme: Spooky

I’m going to kill two birds with one stone here this week by posting photos for both challenges. The first two will be strictly for the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge of Foreign. This came up at a perfect time, as I had just started scanning in the film photos I took when I visited friends in Poland way back in 1992, so when I saw this, I did “ahha!”

The entrance to a church in Kasmierz Dolny, Poland. I plan to share more of this trip at a later time, but this photo was just too good an option for this challenge to wait.

You probably are wondering what’s foreign about a picture of Lily going down the steps outside the morning room, aren’t you? Except this is not Lily, this is a cat foreign to our yard. Not completely unknown, as it’s either Lily’s mother or father, but still it does not live in this yard.

And now, two more photos for both “foreign” and “spooky” I think.

The moon is certainly a foreign planet, and I think this particular moon, with a bit of cloud cover over it, is also a spooky moon. I was trying to capture the ring around the moon that night, with little success. So much to learn about these manual camera settings.

I think this is spooky, a bit like the blob losing bits and pieces of itself. Oh – I’ve dated myself, haven’t I? Making reference to that very old movie, “The Blob”. One I’d really rather forget about.

And this – both foreign and spooky, I think.

Both of the last two were taken at our pond – the first, the fountain; the second, the waterfall with surrounding rock and juniper shrubs. Both with me once again playing with manual settings, and in the case of the second, a little bit of the posterize filter applied. Like I said, much to learn about those manual settings.

There you have it! My attempts at foreign and spooky.

The same thing has happened for you this week as for me last week with the WordPress photo themes. I had just taken photos of silhouettes, which was last weeks theme and now you have the foreign photos at hand! I will look forward to seeing, and hearing about, your trip to Poland. I know quite a few Polish people (my daughter even once dated a Polish boy!) and they are very friendly people. 🙂

I eagerly await details from your trip to Poland.
And I don’t think you’ve dated yourself badly referencing “The Blob.” It’s fairly classic, and lots of people will be watching scary movies in the upcoming days.

I agree – the moon does look spooky here, and I thought that it always looked romantic! This is a good change in perspective. The Blob photograph is also goosebumps-inducing. 🙂

  9. Very cool interpretation of the themes, Carol! I date myself when I tell you that I too remember the movie of which you speak….”It’s….the…..BlooooOOOOOOooooooob!”

Excellent combination, Carol. You win the combined award! I was thinking that the first pic of the church looked kinda spooky, maybe, in a way. You know–how churches sometimes have that ambiance. By the way, did you feed the foreign cat?

Great set of photos! The church is perfect: both foreign and spooky, and I love the little ‘foreign’ cat going down the steps.

You MIGHT have more success with the moon if you stop the aperture down a bit, while still focusing on the moon. Try it!
