The Sweet Sense of Winning

In my last post, I talked about rearranging my morning room, so now I want to share the reasons why all of this happened. Pictoral examples, of course.

The morning autumn sun shining on the leaves of the ornamental plum outside one window.

The Pine Siskin feasting on the Rudbeckia seeds, through that same window.

The ice drops on the pine the morning of our first freeze this season, first seen through another window – but I ventured outside to take the photo.

The waning moon, earlier this month. I loved this one because of the golden color of the moon as it rose over the hill behind us.

It’s those views from the new location of my chair that moved me (pun intended) to move things around. It’s almost the same as being out on the deck – without the fresh air and breeze caressing my cheeks, but still, the views satisfy my soul.

This rearranging created the need for a new table – as I said in my last post. That was on the list of things to shop for today, because today we are going shopping. However, an opportunity presented itself yesterday, and I try not to let opportunities pass me by. Our neighborhood gals go out to our local coffeehouse (we have very little local, so we try to support what we have) Tuesday mornings. At our Tuesday morning coffee yesterday, the Gracious One said she was going to our bigger town down the road, and she was going to a couple of the places I wanted to check for tables. A door opened, and I walked through, and because she is gracious she did not say no.

You’re dying to know the result, are you not?

A table! A table that sets just the right tone! Smaller than the table we had in the morning room before, and airier looking and just – just perfect! Now, you want to hear the real winning part of all of this? This table was the last one in stock, was the floor model and was on sale – a let’s-get-rid-of-it-as-quickly-as-we-can sale – for. . . . drum roll here. . . . $25.00! Yes! Score! And the Gracious One has a large enough vehicle that we could carry it home with us.

Let me tell you folks – we often check our local Big Lots store and often find treasures there for good prices. They also have junk, but some of the overstock or discontinued items they get are wonderful. A little plug here – just because I am so happy about this find. And – to make it better (as if it needs to be better!) husband is thrilled with it too, but it took some convincing to get him to believe the price.

Yes – the sweetness of winning. Thank you, Joanne for your words of encouragement in my search – how true it is that if it is meant to be, it will be.

  1. You should hear me when I read one of your posts. Scrolling down I “oh and ah” as I come to a new photograph. Then when I saw your table and read the price, I fist-punched the air and shouted, “Yes!”

Is anyone around you when you’re doing this? Do they walk away shaking their heads? I am happy that my posts get that reaction from you!

I see why you enjoy your sunroom – it looks so inviting. Now you can also gaze indoors, at that fantastic bargain, and feel righteously chuffed with your thriftiness.

Well – no need to respond that that other comment. So happy it worked out well. I love “scavenging” a good deal 🙂 We’re having snow now, but I suspect it will not stick around. I think my patio furniture is about to go away for the winter. Sigh.
