That last little egg is resisting release of its resident, but we are all on alert here, checking in periodically. Well, I’m not sure that Gep is really on alert, but Kat and I are. And while I’m thinking of Gep, I must correct the error of my ways and tell you that it was he who took the photos of the alien and her mother on our buffalo hunt. I attempted to capture a photo of him taking a photo, but as I approached he thrust a remote flash at me – my job was holding the flash for the taking of the alien photo. He was also our driver that day, because he is, after all, the guy.
Each day brings some changes in these tiny little fledglings. Are they fledglings yet? I’ll have to research that. Research completed. They will not be fledglings until they have feathers and are ready to fly; what they are is hatchlings. Now, back to what I was saying – each day brings some changes. You can see (I hope) the darkening of the feathers on the two older ones, outlining what will become wings and along the top of their heads and backs. In these photos, they are laying over the remaining egg.
I shall soon park myself in front of that TV attempting to capture a photo of the open mouthed hatchlings when a parent returns with food. They appear to be all mouth – or all beak, although at this size it is hard to think of it as a beak.
Baby anythings are always so cute. In this case, it might be they are ugly enough to be cute, I’m not certain. What do you think?
The guy on the right is Brutus because he is the biggest, the little guy is Pen, and the other big guy has not told me his name.

Love the names: Brutus and Pen. Please let us know when the other big guy shares his name!

Carol what a wonderful gift you share with us! I happen to think there is something cute about baby birds being naked without their feathers, it is endearing. Something about a face only a mother can love I find humbling.
I look forward to your posts always Carol but this is an exciting time on your homefront ~ BB
