No, not my kids – they could stay much longer if they wished. But mom and dad swallow think it’s time for their kids to fly out into the big world.
The nest box opening usually has one of the three babies looking out, considering, considering. Mom and dad have brought in the community for support and encouragement.
C’mon out – you’ll like it! This world is full of insects, yummy insects, yours for the taking.
Life is good! C’mon out. Out! Out!
You know how kids can be – stubborn, reluctant to leave the warmth of their nest. Until they make the leap, they stay inside, stretch their wings, climb all over one another and make a lot of noise with their developing tweets.
My kids? Well, Kat has been doing all of the cooking so yesterday we gave her to day off. Sort of. I made a macaroni salad and sliced some tomatoes with basil and olive oil dribbled over them. Gep grilled steaks. Kat made Mojitos. Kat also found out what happens when you hit the “on” button of the blender with the top off. Uh huh. Mojito everywhere.
Don’t you always take your iPad out with you when you grill? My Gep is technologically deficient:
I think he needs another computer or two, don’t you?
His Juan (Won) Carlos, his Seoul street cat turned pampered pet, has found our outside. She likes our outside. She has gotten my girls, all 4 of them, under control and now has run of the house.
Today I had planned to start posting some photos from a few of our “adventures”, but then the bird activity took precedence. “Adventure” photos to begin tomorrow.

It’s so cool that the community joins in! My tomatoes are finally ripening, so I’ll be able to have tomato-basil concoctions soon and I am excited!
Mojitos with the lid off the blender – OH MY GOSH — what a MESS!
Love your birds

Love the community of swallows, and I’m sure you’re happy to have your family around you!
I love how the whole community came out. I can just hear the buzz about the other nesting boxes now. “Did you see the youngest Agnes?” reply: ” Nah.. that was not the youngest, I keep telling you Matilda, he is the middle child.”
What fun. So hppy to hear you have your flock with you two! (no typo) ~ BB
Oh go on babies – go have a look at the wonderful world that awaits you!
How sweet that the kids are taking off, flying into the big bright sometimes confusing world. I always like looking at pictures of your kids.
Kitty has one eye partially closed, making it easier to get a good eye on those swallows……..lol
I’m glad (and surprised) you have baby birds with the cats around!
