This Week’s Photo Challenge is Contrast. I needed a little time to find some pictures that seemed to fit that category, and here they are:
The sun rose over the hill, beaming a contrasting bright light through an opening in the dark clouds.
Taken in the Chinese Gardens in Portland, Oregon; the juxtaposition of the old against the new.
Black dog in white snow.
Now to go see what others have posted!

Lovely. That garden is delightful, wish I was there.
Wonderful choices for the theme at hand.
Cool effect in the first photo but the last one is just sooooooo cute!
Great sky!
Great entries!
All beautiful shots!
I would have never thought about the old against the new — fantastic!
That first one is AWESOME!!!!!!
Ooooooooh, I like ALL of these!
very good contrasting pictures love it.
Great photos.
My PC screen froze, so I’ll repost: loved these photos, particularly the dog in the snow.
You have some nice variations on the theme of ‘contrast’ here! Simple black on white, (and warm against cold) in the dog pic, then colours, eras, and texture in the buildings, and of course, the stunning cloud shot – all air, water and light, but some great movement, and lovely contrasts in that one!
MY favorite is the last one. So cute
Great pictures – gorgeous sky, fun play of black on white with dog, and interesting contrast of old and new. Perfect!
Very lovely! I like that the second one spoke of a different kind of contrast, but, gosh darn, your dog is so cute! (Don’t remember his/her name but do pat his/her head for me, please, until his/her tail wags.)
Ooooh! I love it when the clouds make shadows against the sky
Love the last shot! It’s adorable and a wonderful take on contrast

I love the black dog in the fluffy white snow!
Lovely pix too. I love your dog – I love how dogs love snow!
Portland looks so beautiful. We have had loads of wwoofers over the years from Portland, and I feel as if I am beginning to get a feel for the place – just a little! They are all mad keen on their city, and I am just longing to visit that wonderful bookshop, that has old and new books all in together. It sounds fantastic, and massive. And (ref your post on chin hair) I’ve forgotten the name of it!
love the dog…it is such a natural beautiful moment
